Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) leader Krum Zarkov launched the election campaign of the BSP–United Left coalition in the second multi-member constituency of Burgas, ahead of the April 19 elections. He said that the formation proposes a systemic change in governance.
“We have a list of specialists from all municipalities who are socialists by conviction. The change has several aspects - integrity, but also reform of the systems by which we live,” said Zarkov, who is also the lead candidate on the list. He stressed accessibility to education and healthcare, noting that hospitals do not necessarily have to be private in order to be well-equipped. According to him, the BSP is returning to the essence of socialism, as the country needs protection of its national interest.
The party chairman in Burgas, Nikolay Tishev, outlined three main campaign themes ahead of the vote: economy, justice, and peace. He emphasized that the coalition’s position is firmly against war. The event was also attended by former President (2002–2012) Georgi Parvanov, who criticized the work of the caretaker government. He said that purges are taking place within institutions instead of ensuring fair elections, adding that the issue of peace remains a top priority.
