Polling stations opened across Slovenia on Sunday, with 2.1 million citizens voting to elect MPs from 17 parties and coalitions.
The day began calmly, with no crowds reported at polling stations, while Slovenia's State Election Commission is expected to provide updates on turnout and any election-day violations.
The election day began calmly, without crowds at polling stations. At the Tone Cufar Primary School polling station in the centre of the capital Ljubljana, pensioners were the earliest voters, hurrying to cast their ballots early in the morning.
Election day will end at 7 p.m. local time, 8 p.m. Bulgarian time. Early voting also took place this week, from Tuesday to Thursday, and 81,705 citizens cast their ballots during that period.
An election silence period also began in the country on Saturday and will continue until the end of election day on Sunday. Slovenia's Ministry of the Interior said that a total of 67 reports of breaches of the election silence period were filed on Saturday, and in 55 cases it was found that there had been no actual violation.
Slovenia's State Election Commission is expected to provide information throughout Sunday on voter turnout and any possible violations of the election process or of the election silence period.
The parties taking part in Sunday's election are the governing Freedom Movement, the opposition Slovenian Democratic Party, the coalition of New Slovenia – Christian Democrats, Slovenian People's Party and Fokus, Social Democrats, the coalition of The Left and Vesna – Green Party, Democrats, Resni.ca, Voice of Pensioners, Hope, the Alternative for Slovenia coalition, We, Socialists!, Pirate Party of Slovenia, Prerod, the coalition of Greens of Slovenia and Party of Generations, Solution – Party of Pensioners Velenje, and Sloga.
