Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Bucharest on Thursday for a visit. He met with his Romanian counterpart Nicusor Dan.
Dressed in black, Zelenskyy kept his hand over his heart throughout the playing of his country’s national anthem, quietly mouthing the words. Military honours followed, after which the two presidents withdrew from media view for a private, one-on-one discussion.
The programme also includes a meeting between Zelenskyy and Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, but the exact time remains confidential for security reasons.
According to sources cited by Digi24, Romania and Ukraine will sign a strategic partnership, negotiated since 2023, covering the economy, education, minority rights, and military cooperation. According to a spokesperson for President Zelenskyy, he will also visit the European F-16 Pilot Training Centre at the Borcea Air Base near Fetesti, some 150 kilometres east of the capital Bucharest.
After Romania, Zelenskyy will visit France on Friday at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron, world news agencies report.
