More than 600 competitors, from eight-year-olds to men’s and women’s divisions, took part in the fourth edition of the international Bulgaria Karate Open tournament held on March 7 in Veliko Tarnovo. The event was organized by Etar Karate Club with the partnership and support of the Veliko Tarnovo Municipality, the Bulgarian National Karate Federation and sponsors, the federation said.
In the team ranking, the hosts from Etar finished first with eight gold, seven silver and 13 bronze medals, beating the team of SK Tsanev by just one bronze medal. KK Kaloyan placed third.
The competitors faced off on six tatami mats at the Vasil Levski Palace of Culture and Sports, where medals were awarded in more than 80 categories. Bulgarian athletes won a total of 77 gold medals.
Representatives from six countries - Bulgaria, Greece, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania and Turkiye - took part in the tournament.
