Bulgarian racing driver Nikola Tsolov secured his first victory in Formula 2 after winning the first feature race of the 2026 season at the Albert Park circuit in Australia. With the result, the Bulgarian driver moved to the top of the championship standings.

Tsolov started from fifth position on the grid and made an excellent start, overtaking his teammate Noel Leon and pole-sitter Dino Beganovic in the opening meters of the race. He moved into third place behind Rodin teammates Martinius Stenshorne and Alex Dunne, who had taken the lead.

After DRS was activated at the beginning of the second of the 33 laps, Dunne attempted an overtake on Stenshorne, and the two made contact while braking for Turn 1 on the third lap. Both drivers retired from the race, allowing Tsolov to take the lead.

Following the restart at the beginning of the sixth lap, the Bulgarian driver held off Formula 3 champion Rafael Camara and Beganovic in the battle for first place.

Tsolov crossed the finish line with an advantage of 1.6 seconds over Camara, who finished second, while Laurens van Hoepen took third place.

Tsolov now leads the overall standings with 25 points.

According to the schedule, the Formula 2 season is set to continue in Bahrain in mid-April, although it is still unclear whether the race weekend will take place due to the situation in the Middle East.
