Protesters in Sofia Call for Peace, Demand Defence Minister’s Resignation

People protested in front of the Defence Ministry in Sofia on Friday demanding peace and insisting that Bulgaria should not be drawn into wars. The demonstration proceeded under the slogan “Today our sky, tomorrow our children. Say no to war over Bulgaria!” It was organized by the Bulgaria Can party.

The protesters called for the resignation of caretaker Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov.

They held up placards reading “No to war over Bulgaria,” “I want peace!,” “Don’t drag Bulgaria into foreign wars!” and “Zapryanov, stop! Leave our homeland!”

The ministry building and the surrounding area were guarded by police.
