President Iliana Iotova told journalists on Friday that there is no immediate danger to Bulgaria and a National Security Council with the President will be convened immediately at the first signal of a change in the situation in the Middle East region. The head of state will participate on Friday in a forum dedicated to the role of women in the processes of social development.

"There is no reason to further strain the people in the country. Every risk is monitored very carefully and every piece of information is discussed very carefully, the head of state explained. Bulgaria is not a party to this conflict", said Iotova. The President indicated that she had held several meetings with all security services, the caretaker Minister of Defence, and the Chief of Defence.

Iotova commented that apart from the National Security Council, the most important decisions are within the competence of the National Assembly. According to her, the very fact that this topic has not been discussed in any of the relevant committees in parliament means that the majority assesses that it is better to remain calm and guarantee the peace of citizens.

Regarding the meeting between the caretaker Minister of Defense Atanas Zapryanov and GERB leader Boyko Borissov, Iotova said that every minister can contact every leader of a political party. She also recalled that the permission for the stay of the American military aircraft at the airport in Sofia was taken by the regular government with Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov.

The head of state said that Bulgaria is doing "very well" in terms of evacuating Bulgarians from the Middle East. She said that the country will do everything possible for Bulgarian citizens who want to return home.
