site.btaTourism Minister Meets with Industry Organizations, Discuss Problems in Sector
The caretaker Minister of Tourism, Irena Georgieva, met with representatives of "Mountains and People - Bulgarian Association of Mountain Leaders and Mountain Guides", the Southeast Union of Tour Guides "Vanya Raykova", the Union of Tour Guides in Bulgaria, the Association of Tour Guides in Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Association of Catering Establishments and the Bulgarian Association of Hotel Executives. The talks discussed control in the sector, the lack of personnel, legislative initiatives and the preparation of the international cycling race Giro d'Italia, the Ministry announced.
During the meeting with the tour guide and mountain guide organizations, the main topic was the need for more effective control over unregulated activities and self-proclaimed guides. Representatives of the industry insisted on clearer rules and stricter inspections. Georgieva said that preparations are underway to amend the regulations and expand control powers. "Control is important for the image of the sector and for the protection of honest professionals," she stressed.
During the meeting with the Bulgarian Association of Restaurants, issues related to the shortage of labour and the procedures for hiring employees from third countries were raised. The organization stated that they positively accept the retention of the team in the Ministry and that this creates peace and predictability for the industry. The need for faster and easier procedures was emphasized. "We will work together with the relevant parliamentary committee to find working solutions for the tourism sector," said Georgieva.
The Bulgarian Association of Hotel Executives Professionals discussed the preparation of the stages of the international cycling race Giro d'Italia, which will be held in Bulgaria in May 2026. Georgieva assured that the organization of the event is underway, work is being done on the route and marketing activities. Georgieva also noted that the event is an exceptional opportunity to present Bulgaria to an international audience.
