US President Donald Trump "to reportedly be invited" to participate in the multilateral format for consultations and dialogue on security issues, known as the "Bucharest Nine" (B-9) on May 13, Digi24 reports, citing political sources.

If the US President cannot accept the invitation, it is likely that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will attend in his place, the media outlet said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte are also expected to attend the meeting.

The B-9 is a multilateral format involving nine NATO member states from the eastern flank - Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic. It was established in Bucharest in November 2015 at the initiative of the presidents of Romania and Poland, Klaus Iohannis and Andrzej Duda, in response to the security challenges in the region following Russia’s annexation of Crimea.
