The Council for Electronic Media (CEM) unanimously admitted the five candidates for director general of the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) to a hearing, with all five members voting in favour. The decision was taken at an extraordinary meeting of the regulator on Wednesday.

The candidates are Svilena Dimitrova, Emil Koshlukov, Sasho Yovkov, Nevena Andonova and Milena Milotinova.

The five nominees will be heard by CEM members on February 19.

With five votes in favour, the CEM also adopted specific procedural rules. The hearings will be held in the order in which the candidates submitted their applications, with 50 minutes allocated to each of them.

Earlier in the day, at another extraordinary meeting, the Council decided to resume the procedure for the election of a director general of BNT.

The procedure had been suspended last year due to court proceedings, which concluded on February 13 this year with a ruling by the Supreme Administrative Court (SAC). The court annulled a decision of the Administrative Court of Sofia Region that had suspended the execution of the CEM’s decision regarding the election of a BNT director general.
