There is a new Election Code with no author, and ballot-paper scanning devices that no one has ever seen, Vazrazhdane MP Tsveta Rangelova told journalists in connection with Tuesday’s meeting of the parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee, which lasted nearly 13 hours. During the session, MPs debated at second reading bills amending the Election Code.

"In the report that was debated and voted on in the Legal Committee, 100 paragraphs of proposals submitted by an anonymous working group appeared, unexpectedly for us. Not a single MP on the Committee identified themselves as an author of these proposals, nor did anyone answer any of the questions raised about what the scanning devices actually are, how the voting process will take place, and how a fair vote will be reported," Rangelova said.

She added that "scandalous proposals" were adopted, including voting based on voter lists that will use National Statistical Institute data from the latest population census. Rangelova also said that the announced timeframe for purchasing the scanning machines is insufficient.

"As a result, this condition will not be fulfilled and voting will be conducted on paper only," she added.

Rangelova said that she believes that "the governing majority in the face of GERB-UDF, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) - New Beginning, BSP - United Left, and There Is Such a People (TISP) aims to substitute the vote, carry out electoral manipulation, and secure a win in the next elections through administrative means".
