Postwar SOFIA Map, the first tourist map of Sofia, was presented Friday by Sofia Tourism Municipal Enterprise (Visit Sofia) Director Anton Penev.
The map includes over 20 emblematic buildings and locations in two routes, East and West, which come together at the National Palace of Culture. "Architectural sites that often remain in the shadows are presented, with the most popular communist symbols deliberately avoided in order to present less familiar but valuable examples of Bulgarian architecture in the post-war period," Penev pointed out, adding that the routes will be reasons for tourists to extend their stay in Sofia and follow traces of post-war architecture in the city.
Visit Sofia in partnership with the New Architectural Heritage Foundation dedicated the map to the socialist and post-socialist architectural heritage, which reveals its key layers and transformations in the 20th century, the director emphasized. "In the spring, we will make several tours along both routes to popularize the map," Penev stated.
