Bulgaria’s Vazrazhdane party signed a memorandum of cooperation with Alternative for Germany (AfD), "aimed at the joint protection of the national identity, traditional values, and cultural heritage of European nations within the European Union (EU)," Vazrazhdane said in a press release on Tuesday. The document was signed at a ceremony in the Parliament of the German federal state of Brandenburg.
According to the statement, the memorandum outlines shared positions on issues such as migration, the protection of national identity, economic policy, family values, and demographic stability. It emphasizes that “Bulgaria and Germany are nations with ancient cultures whose identities are threatened by the EU’s agenda for mass migration from non-European and predominantly Muslim countries.”
“The consistent protection of Europe’s external borders and the remigration of persons without the right of residence and of criminals is necessary for the defence of our nations and national identity,” the document reads, as cited by Vazrazhdane.
The document also highlights the potential for economic cooperation between the two countries in sectors such as mechanical engineering, metallurgy and the automotive industry, noting that the EU’s ban on internal combustion engines poses a threat to the economies of both nations.
“The EU’s current agenda is a suicidal programme, which we shall stop through our joint efforts in Brussels and in our capitals,” the memorandum states.
The document also expresses positions on the euro, the war in Ukraine, EU sanctions and the demographic crisis, among other issues.
In January 2025, Vazrazhdane also joined a declaration initiated by AfD calling on the EU to lift sanctions against the Russian Federation.
