Emotions in Focus photo exhibition, created by young people with epilepsy, will open on November 10 at the Roslin Central Park Hotel in Sofia. The event is part of a project by the Association of Parents with Children with Epilepsy (ARDE), funded by Sofia Municipality under its Social Innovations programme, the organizers said.
The project aims to support the development of emotional intelligence among people with epilepsy and intellectual disabilities through psychology and art therapy. Participants photographed each other in various emotional states to learn how to recognize their own and others’ feelings, a skill that can be challenging for people in this group and often leads to communication difficulties.
“Recognizing others’ emotions helps people with epilepsy feel more at ease in communication. When they can tell whether someone is open to a conversation or is sad or angry, they feel more accepted and confident,” Veska Sabeva, ARDE President and project leader said.
The exhibition showcases not only the participants’ works but also the creative process, a journey through emotions, colours, and inner experiences. Psychologists Mira Kalenitsova and Svetoslav Arnaudov and art therapist Daniela Lazarova worked with the children and young people at two day-care centres in Sofia, the organizers added.
