 Tsvetanov: No-Confidence Vote Will Fail;
 European Elections 2019 Are Key to EU,
 Bulgaria

 Sofia, October 16 (BTA) - GERB floor leader and deputy leader Tsvetan Tsvetanov told reporters in the southern town of Smolyan on Monday the vote of no confidence moved by the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) over health care stood no chance of success because Bulgaria does not need early elections now. This country needs an opposition which will table the issues and offer an alternative. "And we can see the BSP does not offer an alternative," he said.

 Tsvetanov said the problems had been identified and the government coalition was making legislative changes to improve health care. "Clearly, the government will survive the no-confidence vote, I'm certain the MPs of the BSP also know this," he said.

 The European Parliament elections will be key both to the European Union and Bulgaria, said Tsvetanov, quoted by GERB's press office.

 Tsvetanov said the parties would have one year to prepare the local elections, for which the European Parliament elections will be a trial run. "It is important for GERB to win a good lead on the opposition in the European elections because this will give an impetus for the preparations for the local elections. It will also effectively curb the opposition's desire for no-confidence votes or snap elections," said Tsvetanov.

 He said the Socialist MPs made "a gaffe" by deciding to meet with people around the country because the MPs are not familiar with their problems. It is a big mistake for MPs to give advice and talk about matters on which local people are more competent. LI/DD
