site.bta Shumen Open International Rapid, Blitz Chess Tournament to Take Place from July 25 to 27

The Shumen Open International Rapid and Blitz Chess Tournament will take place from July 25 to 27 at the Arena Shumen hall, Petromir Panayotov, coach at the Shumen Sports Chess Club, told BTA on Thursday.

Over 150 participants have been registered and a large part of the leading Bulgarian chess players will participate in the competition, with grandmaster Kiril Georgiev being the number one rated participant, Panayotov noted, adding that a total of about twenty competitors with official chess titles will participate in the tournament.

The rapid tournament will be played over a total of three days, while the blitz tournament will be held on July 26. The tournament has a total prize fund of BGN 10,000, of which the winner of the rapid chess tournament will receive BGN 1,500 and the runner-up BGN 1,000. The top 12 in the final rapid rankings will receive a share of the prize fund. A total of 12 prizes will also be provided for the best in the blitz tournament, where the first ranked player will receive BGN 400.
