site.btaVeliko Tarnovo University Hosts 3rd Seminar for Bulgarian Language Lecturers Abroad

The 3rd Seminar for Bulgarian Language and Culture Lecturers Abroad opened at Veliko Tarnovo University (VTU) on Thursday, the university said.

VTU Rector Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov highlighted the university’s nearly 50-year tradition of promoting Bulgarian language and culture internationally, including through its International Summer Seminar and specialized academic programmes. He said the annual event reinforces VTU’s role as a major center for Bulgarian studies abroad.

The seminar brings together lecturers and academics to discuss cooperation between Bulgarian and foreign institutions, the sustainability of Bulgarian studies programmes at overseas universities, as well as curricula and teaching standards. Other topics include European language standards for Bulgarian, lecturers’ professional qualifications, teaching Bulgarian in different linguistic and cultural environments, and cooperation between university programs and Bulgarian schools abroad.

Participants will also visit Svishtov as part of a cultural and educational programme focused on Bulgaria’s 19th- and 20th-century spiritual heritage.

The two-day event is jointly organized by VTU and Bulgaria’s Ministry of Education and Science under the patronage of President Iliana Iotova. It is part of the national research program “Development and Promotion of Bulgarian Studies Abroad.”

Earlier this summer, VTU hosted its 49th International Summer Seminar, attended by 80 participants from 28 countries across four continents.
