Elevated levels of Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci have been found by the Regional Health Inspectorate at the Ofitserski Beach (or Officers' Beach) in Varna, the press office of the regional administration said on Friday.

The monitoring of seawater in the bathing zone is traditionally carried out during the summer season, with the health inspectorate finding out that the water poses a health risk to bathers in this area. Due to the unfavorable results, the inspectorate has issued an order to the regional governor to implement mandatory hygiene and anti-epidemic measures.

In addition, the inspectorate also pointed out that it requires a permanent warning sign to be installed in an easily accessible location on the beach, with a warning text stating that swimming is temporarily prohibited.
