The Ivan Dimov Drama and Puppet Theatre in Haskovo has reopened following a major energy-efficiency renovation funded through Bulgaria's National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The results of the project were presented by Haskovo Mayor Stanislav Dechev and theatre director Steliyan Nikolov on Monday.
The renovation, worth EUR 500,000, included new windows, thermal insulation, a modern natural gas heating system, stage air conditioning, and a fresh-air ventilation system. These measures are expected to reduce the building's annual primary energy consumption by 72%. The theatre's historic pediment was also restored, and the facade inscription was corrected to show the building's actual completion year, 1928.
Mayor Stanislav Dechev described the project as giving "a new lease of life" to one of Bulgaria's most beautiful theatre buildings, combining modern technology with cultural heritage.
The theatre director called the renovation a "dream come true", noting that it significantly improved conditions for both performers and audiences after nearly two years of work.
