site.btaBTA’s LIK Typeface Receives Major Language Upgrade, Supports All EU Languages
The main improvement in LIK Typeface 2.0, an upgrade on the characters developed for BTA, is its expanded language support, said the font's author, Assoc. Prof. Svetlin Balezdrov from the National Academy of Arts (NAA), during a presentation of the new typeface version in Burgas on Wednesday.
Balezdrov, who created the typeface together with NAA students, explained that LIK 2.0 now fully supports all official European Union languages, including Greek, which he described as the project’s biggest challenge. He highlighted the contribution of doctoral student Lyuboslav Boyanov, who designed the lowercase Greek letters, while the rest of the Greek alphabet and additional language symbols were completed jointly with Balezdrov.
The update effectively expands the font’s Latin script support and allows it to be fully used at BTA’s newly opened press club in Athens.
LIK is an original Bulgarian typeface created as part of BTA’s new visual identity and the redesign of LIK magazine. Registered with Bulgaria’s Patent Office, the font includes multiple styles and italic versions for both Cyrillic and Latin scripts. BTA provides the typeface free of charge to public institutions, schools, universities, and cultural organizations in Bulgaria.
