The use of the LIK typeface has also revealed the need for improvements, said BTA Director General Kiril Valchev during the presentation of the updated font in Burgas on Wednesday. The news agency officially received the upgraded version of the LIK font at the event.

Valchev recalled that in July 2024, BTA and the National Academy of Arts signed an agreement to create the LIK font, later unveiled for BTA’s 127th anniversary. Inspired by early Cyrillic lettering, the font was designed by Academy authors and is provided free to public institutions to promote a unified Bulgarian visual identity.

Recent updates to the font include improved proportions for numerical characters, following user feedback. Valchev stated that over the past year, 11 Bulgarian institutions have officially requested the right to use the font as well, as it is available free of charge to public institutions, schools, universities, and cultural organizations in Bulgaria. He stressed, however, the importance of respecting copyright.

The presentation of the updated font was held in Burgas to coincide with a conference dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the National Academy of Art. Valchev pointed out that the redesigned LIK magazine of BTA was also created in partnership with the Academy and now includes support for multiple European languages.

The LIK font is a Bulgarian author's font, created especially for BTA by a team of the National Academy of Arts. It is officially registered with the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria and is the property of BTA. The project was implemented by a team under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Svetlin Balezdrov from the Department of Advertising Design at the NAA. The font was created as part of the new visual identity of BTA and the emblematic magazine LIK. Several basic designs have been developed, including their cursive versions, fully covering the needs of the printed and digital Cyrillic and Latin alphabets.
