A concert by Desi Dobreva opened the Second National Farmers' Market in Pleven on Saturday.

Anelia Decheva, Head of the Culture and Tourism Department in the Pleven Municipality, recalled that agricultural competitions and exhibitions have been organized since the 19th century at the city market, which was modernized in the 1920s. She added that according to historians, in the 1930s, the Pleven Fair was without competition in the country in terms of its scale and economic significance and was among the largest economic events in Bulgaria.

At the farmers' market, producers from Pleven, Kazanlak, Montana, Lovech, Veliko Tarnovo, Stara Zagora and other settlements present dairy and meat products, aronia, bee products, hummus, lavender and rose products, as well as a variety of traditional Bulgarian foods and beverages, organic and healthy products, natural cosmetics and herbal tinctures. One of the co-organizers of the initiative, Ivelina Elmazova from the OT BG Foundation, congratulated the farmers who, through their work, continue the relay of Bulgarian taste. "50% of our health depends on our food. Our identity is connected not only with taste, but also with traditions", she emphasized.

Among the exhibitors is Anton Arnaudov, who presents a biotechnology platform in the field of aquaculture. He told BTA that this is his first time at the farmers' market in Pleven and he hopes for a successful presentation and promotion of the healthy food he offers, including molecular cuisine.

Second National Farmers' Market in Pleven will continue until May 10, with the programme including a performance by the Mizia Folklore Ensemble from the Saglasie 1869 National Community Centre and a concert by Poli Paskova and the Arlekino vocal group.
