The runway at Burgas Airport was reopened on Wednesday after a major renovation, said Denitza Weismantel, Chair of the Supervisory Board of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD.

She noted that the project was completed on time and the airport is ready to welcome aircraft from May 1. "All construction activities are associated with risks, there are factors that make the construction processes difficult, but we managed to complete the project on time," she emphasized. Fraport Bulgaria CEO Michael Reusch announced that the airport is ready for the summer tourist season.

The German Ambassador to Bulgaria, Irene Planck, congratulated Fraport and the airport management, emphasizing that the cooperation between the concessionaire and Bulgarian institutions is an example of successful collaboration at a time of global tension.

The first tourist flight is expected on the Jet2.com airline from Newcastle, England, said Burgas Airport Director Vasil Atanasov. He predicted a 5% growth compared to 2025, expressing moderate optimism given the geopolitical situation. He added that among the new destinations for the season are a Ryanair flight to Rome and a Volotea flight to Lille.

Regarding year-round flights, Atanasov commented that the airport is still waiting for official information from the respective airline in order to officially announce new flight routes. Regarding the issue of aviation fuels, he noted that the situation is being monitored and, if necessary, the airport will communicate with the airlines.

Deputy Tourism Minister Pavlin Petrov also predicted an overall tourism growth this summer season and pointed out that the country is positioning itself as a stable and secure destination in conditions of geopolitical tension.
