Almost the entire area of ​​the Aldomirovtsi Marsh  protected area has been affected by a fire and as a result of the incident, a significant part of the vegetation and habitats located on the territory of the swamp have been destroyed, reported the Ministry of Environment and Water  on its website. The Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water in Sofia carried out an on-site inspection after taking action based on information from the media. The inspectorate will continue to monitor the situation and will take all necessary measures within its competence.

The Aldomirovtsi Marsh is located in the land of the village of Aldomirovtsi, Slivnitsa Municipality, and was declared a protected area by an order of May 1989 of the Minister of Environment. The protected area is important for the conservation of biodiversity in the region and is home to many birds - the ruff, the great crested grebe, the little grebe, the black-necked grebe, the plover, the white stork, the water rail, the little egret, the black-tailed godwit , etc.

The fire was reported on the evening of April 16.
