Environment Minister Julian Popov and his counterparts from other European Union (EU) Member States are holding an informal meeting in Brussels on January 15-16 to discuss climate change, his Ministry reported here Tuesday on its official website. Speaking on the first day of the forum on Monday, Popov stressed the importance of studying the impact of climate change on people and ecosystems.

Popov also highlighted the need to address at European level the issue of water sustainability and strategic water management in the context of climate change. In light of the decision taken at COP28 to phase out the use of fossil fuels, the EU should consider adopting an ambitious target for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, Popov said.
