E-Government Minister Valentin Mundrov said on Thursday the adoption of the euro is not just an economic step, but an ecological reform that will accelerate digital development in Bulgaria. He was talking at an information meeting in Razgrad, part of the National Information Campaign for the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria.
This opens up a huge opportunity to model information systems, to ensure more security, more transparency and better services for citizens, he said, adding that this is an opportunity to build a more efficient, digital and European Bulgaria. "I would like to emphasize that this is a strategic choice for our future, the stability of the economy and trust in state institutions. When we talk about Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone, we are not just talking about a currency. We are talking about a system of standards, technologies and integrations that will accelerate Bulgaria's digital transformation," the Minister noted.
Mundrov stated that the adoption of the euro will facilitate e-governance and digital transformation by unifying financial transactions and eliminating the need to convert currencies in cross-border payments. It will improve the efficiency of administrative services, ensuring greater transparency and interoperability between Bulgarian and European institutions. This will ensure greater business security when planning investments and lower interest rates, easier access to capital and more trust from international partners, he also said.
The Ministry of Electronic Governance has a key task to carry out the coordination and control regarding the readiness of information systems in state and local government, Mundrov noted. To this end, the Ministry maintains a public electronic platform with up-to-date data, through which everyone can monitor the progress of individual administrations. "This is our tool for transparency, traceability and timely provision of expert support," he emphasized. The progress of the administrations is 97.72%, meaning that of 2,072 of a total of 2,136 information systems are fully adapted to work with the euro.
"For people, the change will be felt through more convenient electronic services. Taxes, fees, social payments - everything will be done in euro with the aim of a higher degree of automation and integration between institutions," Mundrov concluded.
