Twenty group choreographies lit up the stage on June 7 during the second day of the tenth edition of “Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance” in Lyon, France. The performances took place at the Palais des Sports and featured Bulgarian folklore groups from across Europe.
The event opened with a performance by students from the National School of Dance Arts in Sofia. They were followed by children’s groups “Little Friends” and “Friends” from London, who performed a dance.
Folklore ensembles from Spain, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Greece, Belgium, and Austria performed traditional dances and ritual reenactments, including the rainmaking ritual “Peperuda” [Butterfly] by the “Bulgarian Rose” group from Málaga.
The session concluded with a musical performance by trio “Nastroenie” from Vienna.
The traveling folklore festival began in 2015 and is hosted this year once again by Bulgarian dance group “Ot Izvora” in Lyon. The event runs from June 6–8, gathering Bulgarian dancers from across Europe to celebrate cultural roots and community.
