site.btaPuppet Theatres from Sofia and Tokyo Perform in Japan's Hokkaido Prefecture


Actors from the Sofia Puppet Theatre and the local PUK Puppet Theatre from Tokyo will hold two performances in Sapporo, the capital of Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan, on Monday. The stage performances are part of a joint three-month tour of the two theatre companies, PUK says on its official website.
According to the announcement, the actors will present the bilingual play The Story of a Seagull and the Gang of Tomcats [available in English as The Story of a Seagull and the Cat Who Taught Her to Fly], directed by Katya Petrova, on the stage of the Sapporo Children's Theatre Yambikoza.
The two theatre troupes already performed the show four times in front of Sapporo audiences between July 25 and 27. The next stop on their Japanese tour is Fukuoka Prefecture.
The performance is part of the Cultural and Human Resource Exchange project, and the puppet theatre Japanese tour includes a total of 33 shows in 13 cities including Tokyo, Hiroshima, Yokohama, Okayama and Fukuoka.
The beginning of the tour was marked by the premiere performance of the play in Tokyo on June 25, which was attended by members of the Bulgarian community in Tokyo.
In addition to the play, during the tour, Japanese audiences have the opportunity to watch the film A Lesson in Flying, dedicated to the relationship and cultural exchange between the Sofia Puppet Theatre and PUK Theatre. The film explores the creative process of Japanese and Bulgarian artists and producers coming together to produce of The Story of a Seagull and the Gang of Tomcats.
