A conference dedicated to the 173rd anniversary of the birth of Major Olimpiy Panov took place here on Tuesday. The event was moderated by historian Ivo Hristov sent by the Ministry of Education and Science of Bulgaria.

Aleksandr Borimeckov, the Administrative Director of the Gregory Tsamblak Branch in Taraclia, a division of the Angel Kanchev University of Ruse, said: "This event has a special meaning for us because Major Panov was born here, in our city of Taraclia. With his name we associate not only heroism and sacrifice, but also deep devotion to freedom, to the people and to the ideals of the Bulgarian Revival. I would like to thank sincerely all those who contributed to the organization of this conference - researchers, teachers, students, public figures, and of course, the descendants of Olimpiy Panov, who are among us today [...] Let this day be not only a commemoration, but also an inspiration for future generations."

Two letters that Bulgarian national hero Vasil Levski sent to Panov have been preserved. In them Levski calls Panov his brother, which is proof of his affection and trust.
