Twelve groups from Moldova’s Taraclia District took part in a dance competition at the Stepan Tanov House of Culture in the district capital Taraclia. The annual event, dubbed “Territory of Dance,” involved entrants from 5 to 48 years of age competing in two rounds: folk dance and other styles.
They were greeted by Tatyana Papurova, who heads the Culture and Tourism Department of the District Council. “Once you step onto the stage, you are winners already,” she said.
Round one showcased a variety of Bulgarian, Moldovan, Gagauz, Ukrainian and Gipsy dances. In round two, the entrants showed artistic and creative prowess in performing moryachka, chunga-changa, Arabian night, Spanish and Latin dances, and Charleston, among other styles.
The winners and their instructors were awarded cups and diplomas.
In addition to honouring the best dancers of Taraclia District, the competition was aimed at promoting the creative spirit, the continuity across genetrations and the preservation of the area’s cultural heritage. It was organized by the Culture and Tourism Department of the District Council.
