The Sofia Opera and Ballet will present the Wagner’s Die Walkure on October 1 and 3 in Fussen, Germany, the organizers said on Saturday. The performance will be part of the Musikfestspiele Konigswinkel 2023.
On the stage of the festival's Neuschwanstein Theatre, the audience will see the production, which premiered in Sofia in July 2023, under the direction of Plamen Kartaloff, one of Wagner's most sought-after directors.
The conductor will be Lothar Zagrosek, and the introduction to the opera will be provided by Detlev Eisinger, who delivered these lectures for many years at the Bayreuth Festival.
This is the second tour of the National Opera to the Bavarian city. In 2015, Plamen Kartaloff's first production of Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen was presented at Neuschwanstein Castle by special invitation.
The Sofia Opera staged seven titles from its Wagner repertoire in the period between July 8-30: a new production of the tetralogy Der Ring des Nibelungen, Tristan und Isolde and Parsifal. The performances are directed by Plamen Kartaloff. They were presented in the Sofia Opera under the conductorship of Constantin Trinks, while The Flying Dutchman was staged on the summer stage near Lake Pancharevo.
