The Council of Ministers on Wednesday approved a draft memorandum to strengthen internal-affairs cooperation between Bulgaria and Moldova.

The signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) expresses support for the European integration aspirations of the Republic of Moldova and aims to strengthen cooperation between the ministries of interior of the two countries by facilitating the effective implementation of the bilateral international treaties currently in force in the field of internal affairs.

Pursuant to the MoU, the ministries of interior of the two countries declare their intention to develop cooperation across a range of areas, which may include public order and security, emergency management, vocational training and education in law enforcement, road safety, forensic science, operational information and investigations, the integration of digital technologies into law enforcement procedures, combating cybercrime, disinformation and hybrid threats, border management, migration, asylum, and European integration.

The agreed forms of cooperation include exchanging best practices, participating in joint projects and programmes, sharing experience and information, and organizing working visits and training activities.

The MoU is not a legally binding instrument and does not fall within the scope of the International Treaties Act of the Republic of Bulgaria.
