Bulgarian Ambassador to the UN Guergana Karadjova hosted an exhibition, “Bulgaria: A Bird’s Eye View,” dedicated to two of Bulgaria’s most important holidays – May 6, the Day of Valour and of the Bulgarian Armed Forces, and May 24 – the Day of Sts Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian alphabet, education, culture, and Slavic literature, the team of the Bulgarian Permanent Mission to the UN said on Thursday.                     

The event took place at the Permanent Mission of Bulgaria to the UN and was attended by ambassadors of UN member states, representatives of the UN Secretariat, and representatives of the host country.

“These holidays evoke the strength of the Bulgarian spirit, our historical memory, and our cultural identity. They remind us of the importance of knowledge, spirituality, courage, and responsibility toward the heritage we leave to future generations,” said Ambassador Karadjova at the opening of the exhibition.

Ambassador Karadjova noted that the Bulgarian Army is a symbol of honor, duty, and professionalism, with deep traditions in defending the country’s independence and security.

“Today, Bulgaria continues to be a reliable and predictable partner within NATO and the European Union, contributing to peace, stability, and international cooperation,” the Bulgarian Permanent Representative said firmly.

“May 24 is one of the brightest and most unifying Bulgarian holidays, a day on which we honor the work of Sts Cyril and Methodius and Bulgaria’s contribution to European and world culture. The Cyrillic alphabet, created and developed in Bulgaria, is today an official script in more than 10 countries and a symbol of spirituality, education, and cultural connectivity among peoples,” Ambassador Karadjova added.

The exhibition presents Bulgaria through the lens of photographer Alexander Ivanov. Over the course of 17 years and more than 500 flight hours, he has captured the magic of the four seasons, the grandeur of the Rila and Pirin mountains, the beauty of the Black Sea coast and the Rose Valley, as well as iconic historical and cultural landmarks such as Perperikon, the Belogradchik Rocks, and Tsarevets.

“In a world marked by challenges and divisions, culture and art continue to be a universal language of understanding, dialogue, and mutual respect. That is precisely why such events are of particular importance, they build bridges between peoples and remind us of the power of cultural diplomacy,” Ambassador Guergana Karadjova also said.
