The Kitka folklore dance ensemble from Vienna will perform the theatrical production Wedding, But No! during the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling folklore festival, which will take place from May 15 to 17 at BMW Park in Munich, Germany.
Nina Vasileva-Zaneschev, conductor and choir leader of the ensemble, told BTA that she recently thought about the people in the ensemble who feel that their time on stage has passed. "You have danced for years. There comes a moment when you cannot do it anymore, and you cry because your successors are coming on stage, and you are not anymore. You have sung for decades, and there comes a moment when you simply do not have the voice anymore. And you feel sad that the young are on stage, and you are in the audience. And I felt how much artistry is nestled in the souls of these people, and they cannot bring it out, because they do not even know that it exists," Vasileva said.
That is why she decided that the time has come for a performance, which unites people of all ages; where former, current and future participants will perform on stage. That is how the Bulgarian Folklore Theatre was founded. Valya Dryanovska, head of the dance ensemble, shared her support for the new performance. "My soul hurts because my legs hurt, and I can no longer dance like I used to. But we are primarily artists, and we still have something to show. That is why I am extremely enthusiastic about working on the implementation of this idea, although there are stumbling blocks everywhere," she said.
For Boyka Anastasova, chair of the Bulgarian Rhythms Association, which the Kitka ensemble is part of, the Bulgarian Folklore Theatre is a platform that allows the ensemble to present itself in a new light, with all its richness.
