                                A delegation from the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, led by Vice Minister Chen Jiachang, met with Bulgarian scientists at the National Center for Polar Studies (NCPS) at the St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia here on Tuesday. The Bulgarian delegation included Prof. Christo Pimpirev, head of the NCPS, Dragomir Mateev, Deputy Director of the Center; Dr Rositsa Yaneva from the NCPS; Prof. Lyubomir Ivanov and Borislava Ivanova from the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute (BAI), and Kalin Mutafchiev from the Ministry of Education and Science, the BAI reported.
Issues discussed at the meeting included ways to deepen cooperation between the two countries in the study of polar regions, particularly opportunities for scientists specializing in polar topics from Wuhan University and Sofia University to exchange knowledge.
Prof. Wei Gong, Vice President of Wuhan University, proposed deepening work on joint scientific projects and publishing the results in renowned journals, as well as preparing a joint monograph.
Vice Minister Chen Jiachang noted that cooperation in Antarctica is particularly important for China.
Earlier on Tuesday, at the 18th session of the Commission for Scientific and Technological Cooperation between Bulgaria and China, the two countries agreed to advance their cooperation in science, technology and innovation, as well as academic exchange.
