Bulgaria and Ukraine will step up their energy cooperation based in the principle of mutual benefit, taking into consideration the common interests and goals of the two countries. The aim of the memorandum of understanding between the energy ministries of the two countries, approved by the Council of Ministers on Wednesday is to create a base frame for advancing that cooperation.

The document takes stock of the desire of the two countries to exchange scientific, technical, engineering and operational experience in the use and transfer of knowledge and know-how, related to the more efficient use of renewable energy sources and energy technologies.

Potential areas of cooperation are connected to the improvement of energy efficiency, increasing energy storage, smart grids, promotion of digitization and cooperation in nuclear energy. A joint working group will develop forms of cooperation in the said areas. The memorandum will be in effect for five years, with an option for automatic renewal every three years.
