site.btaRomania's Presidential Administration Denies Claims That Country Is Sending Military Personnel to Ukraine

Romania’s presidential administration has denied recent online claims that the country is preparing to send military personnel to Ukraine to take part in the war. The institution’s official position describes the claims as a “false narrative.”

The president’s administration said that these claims constitute manipulation that deliberately distorts an administrative decision in order to fuel the unfounded claim that Romania is being drawn into the conflict. It also added that Romania is not sending combat units to Ukraine, nor is it sending military personnel to the front line.

On September 8, Romanian President Nicusor Dan asked Parliament to approve the participation of up to 20 Romanian soldiers in the operational command of the multinational force for Ukraine.

The presidential administration explained that this is a command structure that operates on a rotational basis and carries out its activities in France and the United Kingdom, thousands of kilometres away from the front line. The participation of Romanian military personnel in this structure does not involve sending them to the conflict zone to take part in combat operations.

The institution's statement also noted that Romania participates in international mechanisms aimed at strengthening regional security, given that Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine affects the countries of the Black Sea region. The Coalition of the Willing for Ukraine is one such mechanism. Romania’s participation in this structure should be clearly distinguished from any possible direct involvement in combat operations on Ukrainian territory.
