The death toll from Wednesday night’s missile attack on Odesa has risen to four, with seven people injured, Oleg Kipper, head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, said on his Telegram channel.
"Six of the injured have been hospitalized, two are in extremely critical condition. Doctors are doing everything possible to save their lives," Kipper stated in his message.
According to the regional governor, damage was caused to an infrastructure facility as well as to a gas station. A fire broke out at the site of the strike, engulfing a minibus and a gas pump. Firefighters have extinguished all the fires. Emergency services are dealing with the aftermath of the attack.
Earlier, Serhiy Lisak, head of the Odesa City Military Administration, said on his Telegram channel that two people were killed and two were injured as a result of a missile attack on Odesa on Wednesday evening. Infrastructure has been damaged, the air raid alert remains in effect, Lisak said. Regional authorities are urging residents to take shelter in bomb shelters.
According to local Telegram channels, two Iskander missiles were fired at Odesa.
Bulgarians in the Odesa region number more than 150,000 and were the third largest population group in Ukraine in 2001, according to the official census. About 50,000 - 60,000 Bulgarians live in the city of Odesa itself. The largest compact Bulgarian population is concentrated in the Bolhrad, Izmail and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi districts.
