The price of the consumer basket is BGN 2 lower than last week and amounts to BGN 96, Vladimir Ivanov, Chair of the Commodity Exchange and Wholesale Markets State Commission told a press conference on Monday.

He reported that this is not due to a decrease in the price of a specific product or products but due to the fact that grapes, which are cheaper than apricots in numerical terms, have replaced apricots in the basket. He added: "The relative value of the consumer basket has been preserved, i.e., there are minor variations in the different products without a change in the final value."

In the fruits and vegetables category, the wholesale price of cucumbers per kg dropped BGN 0.06, carrots lost BGN 0.03, cabbage lost BGN 0.03, red peppers lost BGN 0.23, green peppers were down BGN 0.02. Ivanov described these changes as a clear seasonal factor. There has also been a drop in the price of courgettes by BGN 0.07 and grapes by BGN 0.60.

Watermelons, lemons, and apples have kept their prices from last week. The trend of falling prices for lemons is expected to continue, given the much higher supply expected in a few days.

There has been an increase in the price of tomatoes by BGN 0.01, potatoes by BGN 0.03, onions by BGN 0.03, and peaches by BGN 0.25.

Among the basic foodstuffs, beans are up by BGN 0.05, pork by BGN 0.05, chicken by BGN 0.04, yogurt (per 400 g) by BGN 0.06, cheese by BGN 0.02, and sugar by BGN 0.02.

The goods that decreased in price were rice by BGN 0.06, sunflower oil (per litre) by BGN 0.02, yellow cheese by BGN 0.06, and butter (per 125 g) by BGN 0.04. Eggs, flour, and fresh milk retained their prices from last week.

Commenting on the poor sunflower harvest in Bulgaria and whether it will affect sunflower oil prices, Ivanov said that there is good supply in the Black Sea region and that the market is unlikely to allow sharp price changes given the good quantities.

Ivanov presented the changes in wholesale product prices from May 20 to date. All product prices are per 1 kg unless otherwise specified. All prices are given in BGN.
