The Japanese Spirit group exhibition will open on September 30 as part of the 36th Days of Japanese Culture in Bulgaria and the Sofia Paper Art Fest 2025 at the Mazda Gallery in Sofia, the organizers said on Monday. The exhibition will showcase contemporary Japanese artists who use paper as their primary medium of expression, combining tradition and innovation in art. 

According to the gallery, the event aims to present contemporary Japanese art in an international context, highlighting the distinctive spirit, aesthetics and philosophy of Japan through paper forms. The group exhibition creates a dialogue between tradition and innovation, encourages intercultural exchange and fosters lasting connections between artists, institutions and audiences.

The exhibition is part of the cultural programme dedicated to EXPO Osaka 2025 and pays tribute to the longstanding diplomatic and cultural ties between Bulgaria and Japan. The event also marks the 20th anniversary of the Together in Art initiative of the Amateras Foundation, a platform that has consistently linked the Bulgarian and Japanese art scenes, the team noted.
