The Palace Architectural and Park Complex in Balchik was the fourth site that singer Stefan Valdobrev and the Usual Suspects visited for filming their new The Acoustics of Bulgaria project. “This is one of the most beautiful places in the country, which is why we recorded the song Beauty here,” Valdobrev told BTA on Monday.
Sound engineer Mitko Ganchev, cameramen Krum Rodriguez and Vesselin Hristov and all members of The Usual Suspects, including drummer Stoyan Yankulov-Stundzhi and guitarist Ivan Lechev, made recordings at the Silver Well, which is located near the main entrance to the Palace and was rebuilt in a biblical style by decision of Queen Maria.
On the only brick wall next to the well is a majolica work entitled The Adoration of the Infant, from the 15th century, made by an artist from Florence. “It is exciting, there is no way to do such a project and not include the Palace in Balchik, because it is a landmark place for Bulgaria with its beauty. We are acting and moving forward. We are grateful to all who support us and are responsive in this wonderful way,” Valdobrev emphasized.
The construction of the Palace began in 1924 and ended in 1936. Queen Maria visited Balchik for the first time in 1921, when the town had formed as a favorite place for the Romanian intelligentsia. Today, the complex is a place for creativity, cultural and congress tourism.
The filming of the new project began at the Provadia Saltworks, after which, the musicians visited the Roman Thermae in Varna and the historic Imaret in the Balchik village of Obrochishte.
BTA is the main media partner of the project.
