site.btaSpray Paint, Eggs Hurled at MRF - New Beginning Headquarters during Protest in Sofia
Protesters spray painted and threw eggs at the building housing the headquarters of MRF - New Beginning in Sofia during the second day of protests under the slogan "Free Bulgaria without Peevski, Borissov and the Mafia!". The event was organized by the BOEC civic association.
"Peevski" is MRF - New Beginning leader Delyan Peevski, and "Borissov" is GERB leader Boyko Borissov.
There was heavy police presence at the site. The protesters carried Bulgarian and European flags and chanted "Resignation".
Georgi Georgiev of BOEC said that the association will organize a new protest on Sunday.
He also said that a meeting scheduled for Friday to form a National Union for Common Front against the Mafia, was attended by all invited parties. Among them were Bozhidar Bozhanov and Assen Vassilev of the opposition Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria parliamentary group and civil organizations.
On Thursday, citizens participating in the first day of the protest demanded the release of Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev from custody and the revocation of the Council of Ministers' decision of November 2024 granting the building in downtown Sofia to MRF - New Beginning.
