There have been no oil spills in the area of the Burgas Bay for weeks, said Pavel Marinov, Director of the Regional Environment and Water Inspectorate (REWI) in Burgas on Monday.

He stressed that the media reports of serious pollution in the last two days are not true and referred to data provided by the Maritime Administration Agency, which receives up-to-date information from the European Maritime Safety Agency's satellite information system. Marinov pointed out that the data on the lack of pollution was also confirmed by the Copernicus system of the Naval Academy in Varna.

He specified that on Saturday, the REWI in Burgas received a report about fuel oil balls dumped on Severna Kosa beach in Pomorie. An eco-inspection team was sent to the site, which established the presence of small fuel oil balls and reported the findings to Pomorie Mayor Ivan Aleksiev. Aleksiev in turn contacted the concessionaire of the beach to initiate the cleaning of the fuel oil balls, Marinov said, adding that by Sunday afternoon, the beach had been cleaned and the amount of oil collected was one and a half buckets.

The press centre of Pomorie Municipality also denied reports of oil spills on beaches on Sunday.
