The Union of Bulgarian Journalists (UBJ) chapter in Veliko Tarnovo presented its Pokazalets (pointer) Award for the first time at a ceremony at the Regional Library here on Friday.
Todorka Nedeva was presented the award for her work as the the long-time chief curator and head of the Modern and Contemporary History Department at the Regional History Museum in Veliko Tarnovo. She emphasized that the town is a pointer to the history of Bulgaria, therefore this award is symbolically associated with the history of Veliko Tarnovo, which brings the brightest achievements in the field of politics, culture and upholding the national ideal and is a model for all Bulgarians and Europeans.
"The Veliko Tarnovo branch of the Union of Bulgarian Journalists has over 30 members. At its meeting a month ago, we decided to present the newly established award to those people who are quiet patriots, but always ready to help us, said UBJ Veliko Tarnovo chair Martin Georgiev upon presenting the award. He emphasized that the Pokazalets Award aims to draw attention to the tireless work of people who preserve and affirm values, pointing out that with the support of the national leadership of the Union of Bulgarian Journalists, this award also shows that journalists are the people who can point the finger and show what is right and what is wrong in public life.
Veliko Tarnovo Regional Governor Yulia Likomanova - Mutafchieva, who emphasized that she would continue to be a faithful partner of the journalists of Veliko Tarnovo, as they are always at the centre of events with their objectivity. She emphasized that Nedeva, in addition to being a guardian of history, has a bright journalistic contribution as well.
"On the eve of the Day of the Awakeners, we must remember that the brightest names from the Bulgarian National Revival to the present day have been journalists, as they have written in the most influential publications," Veliko Tarnovo Deputy Mayor Prof. Georgi Kamarashev stated.
Deputy Chairs of the Committee on Culture and Media in the National Assembly, Mariana Boyadzhieva and Dimitar Nikolov, sent a congratulatory address, which stated that the establishment of the Pokazalets Award is an inspiring example of how regional communities value and support the people of the pen and microphone, who with their work and talent illuminate the path to a better society. A congratulatory address was also received from Snezhana Todorova, chair of the Management Board of the Union of Bulgarian Journalists.
During the ceremony, the future joint project of the Veliko Tarnovo Regional Library and the Union of Bulgarian Journalists in Veliko Tarnovo for the establishment of a national award for journalism named after Petko Rachev Slaveykov was announced.
