Eleven collages and two drawings are part of an exhibition, "Instructions for Daily Life". by American artist Raimundo Figueroa. It will open at One Gallery within the framework of the Night of Museums on May 17, organizers said.

Figueroa builds his collages into intimate, multi-layered compositions made from a variety of materials, from watercolors, ink drawings and even random found objects, including postage stamps from Argentina and comics by the iconic 1960s publisher Archie, the team says.

"My work reflects years of introspection, and music has always been a part of my life," says the American artist, noting that as an artist he feels more like a composer because he defines the form, rhythm and tonality of his collages, drawings and sculptures.

Flowers are the symbol of the current exhibition, but this is not the first time the artist has taken advantage of the richness they can express. In his opinion, flowers can express everything - emotions from sadness, grief, joy, happiness to strength and lust for life. Besides flowers, another motif in the exhibition is the skull.

"In the exhibition 'Instructions for Daily Life', I use it as a symbol of change and transformation, as in many cultures, for example in the tarot card which depicts death, the skull also carries the meaning of rebirth," Figueroa says.

Born in Puerto Rico in 1957, Raimundo Figueroa developed his career in the United States and his works are in many prestigious museums and collections around the world. In addition to being recognizable in the visual arts, he has a background in music. Figueroa graduated from the prestigious Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of renowned cellist and conductor Pablo Casals.

In his 40-year career, Raimundo Figueroa has participated in numerous prestigious exhibitions and biennials around the world, such as those in Mexico, Sao Paolo, Chile, Florence, and Tokyo. His works are part of important private collections and elite museums around the world.
