Preparations are underway for the 50th edition of the relay race around military history museums in Pleven, the municipality's press centre reported. Applications are now open for the sports event, which is traditionally part of Pleven's programme for marking the National Day of Bulgaria, March 3.

Applications are now open for teams from municipal and state schools in Pleven Municipality. The teams will be divided in four age groups for boys and girls.

The relay race is planned to start from Vazrazhdane Square. The 4-km route includes the Town Garden, the Monument to 4th Infantry Regiment, the History Museum, Skobelev Boulevard, the Mother Bulgaria Monument, Skobelev Park, the Pleven Epopee 1877 Panorama, and back along the same route to the finish line in front of the St George the Victory-Bearer Mausoleum.

Pleven's relay race around military history museums was held for the first time back in 1940. There were many interruptions in the event over the years, the last interruption being from 2017 to 2022. In its most popular period, the race was international and attracted over 1,100 participants; it included a relay from the Romanian mausoleum in the village of Grivitsa to the St George the Victory-Bearer Mausoleum in Pleven.
