Defence Minister and French Ambassador Discuss Bilateral Military Cooperation

Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov and French Ambassador to Bulgaria Marie Dumoulin discussed bilateral military cooperation and current security issues during a meeting in Sofia on Tuesday, Zapryanov’s ministry said in a press release.

Zapryanov congratulated Ambassador Dumoulin on her appointment to Bulgaria and expressed his high regard for defence relations between the two countries. He voiced confidence that the efforts to achieve mutually beneficial goals and to strengthen the fruitful partnership between Bulgaria and France in the military sphere will continue to deepen and develop.

The talks focused on opportunities to expand military cooperation and on projects for the modernization of the Bulgarian Armed Forces. They also covered increased investment in defence and the need to enhance interoperability among NATO allies.

Zapryanov reaffirmed Bulgaria’s commitment to ensuring security in the Black Sea region and the Western Balkans, as well as to maintaining support for Ukraine, in line with the decisions of the National Assembly.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Defence Minister Adelina Nikolova, the French Embassy’s First Counsellor Anne-Charlotte Montin and experts.
