An exhibition titled The Jews in the Bulgarian Lands of the Bulgarian National Library is presented at the Bodzin Art Gallery of the Pozez Jewish Center in Fairfax, Virginia. It can be viewed March 7-20, 2024, the Bulgarian Embassy in the United States wrote on its Facebook page.

The exhibition commemorates the rescue of Bulgarian Jews from the Holocaust during World War II. On March 10, 1943, thousands of ordinary citizens, religious leaders, public figures and intellectuals raised their voice against injustice and prevented the deportation of nearly 50,000 Bulgarian Jews to the Nazi death camps.

The exhibition also pays tribute to 11,343 Jews deported to Nazi death camps from parts of former Yugoslavia and northern Greece.

"This year marks the 130th anniversary of the birth of the Deputy Chair of Parliament Dimitar Peshev, who played a key role in saving thousands of Jewish lives," the Embassy wrote in their Facebook post.

The lessons of the past should motivate to counter all forms of anti-Semitism, discrimination and hatred, manifesting again nowadays. The lessons of history remind that people must continue to fight even harder to defend human values and fundamental freedoms, the Embassy wrote.

Throughout 2023, the Jews in the Bulgarian Lands exhibition was on display in Bulgaria and abroad on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the rescue of the Bulgarian Jews.
