President Rumen Radev, who is also Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Monday said it is important to have a comprehensive analysis of the use of low-cost effective technologies. He was speaking at the opening of a roundtable on the application of affordable technologies and products with a large asymmetric effect in modern conflicts.

The event is taking place at the Boyana Residence in Sofia and is organized by the presidential institution. Attending are representatives of the Defence Ministry, academia working in the area of national security and Bulgarian defence industry companies.

Radev said: "We understand that achieving a high level of national security in a world of unprecedented dynamics and growing threats is a major task of state policy, as is having adequate capabilities of the Armed Forces." In addition to being the Defence Ministry's commitment, this requires joint efforts from state institutions, science and business. "We need to analyse the breakthrough in low-cost affordable technologies and to see where we stand in terms of the availability of such technologies and of the capabilities of the Bulgarian defence industry," the President said.

He expressed a hope that the forum would discuss how to increase the defence capabilities of the Armed Forces with much less money than is planned for the major modernization projects, how to overcome the technological backwardness of the Bulgarian Armed Forces and to bring them closer to the country's defence science and industry.
