Pernik, Western Bulgaria, December 9 (BTA) - Writer Zdravka
Evtimova, who lives in Pernik and is a freewoman of the town,
has won the Balkanika 2013 Award for Best Book by an author of
the Balkan countries in 2013, the local writers' association
said.

Evtimova was given the award for her book of short stories
entitled "Pernishki razkazi". She won in competition with
Albania's Ylljet Alicka, Greece's Dimitrios Stefanakis,
Macedonian academician Mitko Madzunkov, Romanian Mirela
Roznoveanu who lives in the United States, Serbia's Dragan
Velikic and Turkey's Hakan Gunday. The jury was headed by Prof
Andrew Wachtel, President of the American University of Central
Asia.

Zdravka Evtimova has won numerous Bulgarian and international
awards. She is a member of the Union of Bulgarian Writers and of
the writers' league of Yorkshire and the Humber. She worked at
the Bulgarian Delegation to NATO in Brussels.

The Balkanika Award was instituted by the foundation of the same
name, established 19 years ago. It was first given to Serbian
writer David Albahari in 1997. Bulgarian writer Anton Donchev
was the winner in 1998. Another Bulgarian, Dimiter Shumnaliev,
was given the award in 2004 for a collection of short stories.
